Legislative
session begins Monday
A recurring process
that touches the lives of every Idaho
citizen and influences our daily decisions
resumes Monday, Jan. 9 in the heart of
the capital city. Citizen legislators
will assemble at noon for the formal opening
of the second session of the 58th Idaho
Legislature. Continue
ITD to forward transportation-related bills to the
Legislature The
transportation department anticipates introducing
nine proposals related to transportation, safety
and security during the 2006 Legislative session
that begins Monday (Jan. 9). The transportation
board approved the legislative proposals last summer. ContinueSTIP

Distribution began this week of a roadmap that provides
direction for Idaho’s highway construction
program through 2010. The Statewide Transportation
Improvement Program (STIP) document produced by
ITD’s Division of Planning and Programming
outlines state construction programs programmed
for the next three fiscal years and projects that
are in preliminary development for 1011. Continue Sampler,
tester qualification program expanded ITD
expanded its qualification program, effective this
week, for nearly 1,800 persons who sample or test
materials used in federally funded highway construction
projects. Federal regulations require that anyone
who samples or tests on a federal aid project must
be qualified according to prescribed standards.

Governor reappoints Blick to board
Gov. Dirk Kempthorne recently reappointed Gary Blick,
a partner with his brothers in operating Blick Brothers
Farms, to the Idaho Transportation Board for another
six-year term. The appointment will be forwarded
to the Idaho Legislature for official endorsement
this session. Continue
Children
issue family members seat belt 'citations' It
used to be that only law enforcement officials had
the power to issue seat belt citations. But in northern
Idaho, kids recently joined the ranks of enforcers
as part of the Junior Seat Belt Officer Program
in Coeur d’Alene. The program provided a creative
opportunity for kids to help increase awareness
about seat belt use. Continue
