Board okays addition of I-90 interchange to STIP
The Idaho Transportation Board this week approved the addition of a new interchange on Interstate 90 at Beck Road in Post Falls to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Support for the addition came during the board’s monthly business meeting in Boise Wednesday (Feb. 21). Approval, however, is contingent upon, pending passage of the proposed State Tax Anticipation Revenue legislation and a funding agreement.

Planning can help smooth purchasing process
Although not an exact science, the purchasing process that ITD and other Idaho agencies follow is based on sound principles that safeguard public funds and protect both employees and providers. It specifies when bids and quotes must be obtained, when contracts are necessary and who authorizes the purchases. To celebrate National Engineers Week (Feb. 18-24) and to highlight the role women play in engineering, the National Academy of Engineering has launched “Ask an Engineer.” Available through its “EngineerGirl!” Web site, the program provides the opportunity to e-mail questions and receive answers from women engineers.

COMPASS to unveil long-range plan Saturday

The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) announces completion of the Communities in Motion: Regional Long-Range Transportation Plan 2030. Anyone interested in the vision for transportation in Southwest Idaho can pick up a copy of the plan during an event at the Best Western Vista Inn at 2645 Airport Way in Boise on Saturday (Feb. 24).

New board member brings engineering expertise
Despite the volumes of information Jim Coleman has received the past two weeks, his transition to the Idaho Transportation Board should be relatively swift. Coleman, who brings more than 30 years of engineering experience to the board, was appointed Jan. 31 to fill the District 1 vacancy left by the retirement of John McHugh. The new member will join the board Tuesday and Wednesday when it meets in Boise.
