IT transition reaches midpoint
ITD Director Dave Ekern recently provided an assessment of the department’s Information Technology Transition as it reached the midpoint in development and implementation. Progress thus far has been significant, he said in a report to division administrators, system improvement team leaders, district engineers and section heads.

District 4 receives national pavement award

Each year, the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) honors and recognizes quality concrete pavement projects across the nation. In 2005, District 4 was chosen as a finalist in the Divided Highways-Rural category of the National Pavement Awards Program for Excellence in Concrete Pavement.

Important artifacts preserved for posterity
This is exactly what had happened with most of the Artifacts recovered from ITD projects since 1976 were collected, diagnostic items cataloged, lithic patterns analyzed, and reports written, while the artifacts themselves were placed in temporary storage, waiting for final curation... these collections filled 101 cardboard boxes from 86 different sites. Something had to be done.

Diversity speakers highlight EEO conference
A two-day Equal Employment Opportunities conference is planned for March 7, 8 in Post Falls to explain the department’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprises program. The conference at Templin’s Red Lion Hotel is designed for prime contractors on ITD projects who use subcontractors that qualify under the federal DBE guidelines. ITD’s EEO office and Human Resource Services organized the 2006 conference.

Haz-Mat program explained in on line presentation
A new audio-visual presentation that explains Idaho’s commercial driver’s license (CDL) hazardous materials endorsement requirements is available on line through the Idaho Transportation Department Web site. The 15-minute presentation addresses the PATRIOT Act of 2001 and details Idaho’s driver’s license, written testing and security threat assessment processes.

Health screenings offered at Headquarters
Two health-related screenings are planned for ITD employees next month at Headquarters. A cardiac risk assessment/14-channel blood screening is planned March 7 in the Auditorium. Provided by the ITD Wellness Program, the screening tests for cholesterol (HDL and LDL), glucose, triglycerides and some minerals and enzymes.

Convoy to mark anniversary of interstate

Idaho will join in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System this year by participating in a stop along a cross-country convoy in June. The golden anniversary acknowledges the unrivaled role the interstate system plays in the national economy and the country’s interconnected transportation system.

Long-term care insurance enrollment deadline nears
Aetna Life Insurance Co. is underwriting a new long-term care insurance plan for state employees and eligible family members. This year's enrollment period closes Feb. 28, so anyone interested in participating should enroll as soon as possible.
