Director
announces organizational changes
After
careful consideration, I have concluded that several
changes to the department’s organizational
structure will help us become more efficient and
responsive. I want to thank the people in each
of these offices and sections directly affected
for their cooperation and for making the changes
successful. This realignment will help us better
meet the challenges we face as a department and
help us continue to serve the citizens of Idaho
efficiently and effectively.

Sweeney
chosen vice chairman of board
For
the first time this decade, John X. (Jack) Combo
of Idaho Falls does not bear the title “vice
chairman” of the Idaho Transportation Board.
Last month, the distinguished attorney who represents
District 6 on the board, asked that he not be considered
for the role that he has occupied since 1999. In
his place, the seven-member board unanimously chose
Bruce Sweeney who represents District 2.

ITD continues leadership searches
As ITD continues the selection process to identify
a replacement for Scott Stokes in District 1, a
new search will begin soon for District 3 following
the announcement last week that Eric Shannon will
trade his position as district engineer for a job
in the private sector.

Blood
screening clinic set Wednesday at HQ
The
annual HQ blood screen clinic is scheduled for Wednesday,
March 14 in the HQ Auditorium. To sign up use this
website link: www.mysignup.com/ITD . Please register
your preferred time slot by Monday, March 12. The
Cardiac Risk Profile is a good way to check your
cholesterol and is available without a doctor's
order to anyone over 18 years (family members are
also welcome at this clinic).

'Buzzed' driving still is drunk driving
As St. Patrick's Day approaches March 17, the transportation
department reminds motorists that "buzzed"
driving is considered drunk driving, and law enforcement
agencies throughout Idaho will be out in full force
to catch and arrest impaired drivers.In 2005, 36 percent
of all traffic fatalities in Idaho were a result of
impaired driving.

AASHTO
sponsors transportation photo contest
If
your camera was a paintbrush and Idaho’s
transportation system your subject, how would
you paint it? The American Association of State
Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
would like to know. Better yet, they’d like
to see the portrait. AASHTO offers a handsome
reward to the photos that best illustrate transportation
in America through its annual “Faces of
Transportation” photo contest.
