Forum essential in moving to
new transportation era

Idaho’s transportation system has reached a crossroads, and the direction we take in building for the future will be determined by the decisions we make today. For the past two years, an independent group of local policymakers, transportation officials and Idaho citizens has been engaged in discussions about how to move the present system into new era using the lessons of the past.

Memo outlines changes to e-mail standards
ITD will implement a number of significant changes to employee use of e-mail, effective June 1, to address growing demand on the system and its storage capacity, according to Susan K. Simmons, Administrator of the Administration Division. A memo distributed to all ITD employees Monday (April 10) outlines the changes and reminds employees to use discretion when sending and receiving e-mail.

ITD audience learns history of Buhl Woman
A 90-minute journey took ITD employees back more than 10 millennia Wednesday to learn about some of the region’s earliest inhabitants. Discovery of the skeletal remains of a young woman who has become widely known as Buhl Woman. James Woods, director of the Herrett Center for Arts and Science at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, led the historical tour from the Headquarters Auditorium.

A communication media that has become a staple of international business, including the transportation department, is a powerful tool. Used appropriately, e-mail enables the near-instantaneous sharing of messages, documents and images. It helps ITD employees be more productive and work more efficiently.

Program takes driving instructors inside teen minds
Idaho driver education teachers are receiving a new tool to help change the attitudes of teen-agers about driving, thanks to a partnership between the Idaho State Department of Education and the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Traffic and Highway Safety.

Massive rock lands on Idaho 55 shoulder
Motorists had more than driving rain to contend with on Idaho 55 Wednesday. They had to watch for falling rock, dislodged from nearby embankments after several days of relentless rain. A large rock cascaded onto the highway shoulder north of Rainbow Bridge, about 53 miles from Eagle. District 3 maintenance crews had to break the rock into two pieces to safely remove it.

Delta Dental distributes new insurance cards
Delta Dental, which provides dental insurance plans for ITD and other state employees distributed new membership cards this week that replace Social Security numbers with personalized numbers.

Missed jury date? Watch for the scam
Here's a new twist scammers are using to commit identity theft: the jury duty scam. The scammer calls claiming to work for the local court and claims you've failed to report for jury duty. He tells you that a warrant has been issued for your arrest... The scammer then asks the victim for confidential information for "verification" purposes, specifically, for the victim's Social Security number, birth date, and sometimes even for credit card numbers and other private information

PIN number thefts prompt warning
The continued refusal by major credit card associations and financial institutions to identify the source of a data compromise that has resulted in a wave of debit card fraud worldwide is fueling concerns about the scope of the problem. It is also shining a spotlight on what may be growing attempts by criminal gangs to compromise PIN-based card transactions, which have until now been considered extremely secure.
