Idaho health insurance plan for FY08

Rates to remain unchanged for employees
Despite constantly rising costs of health insurance and increasing use of medical care, state employees will not pay more for insurance premiums in the coming fiscal year. For the third consecutive year, increases in health insurance will be assumed by the state, announced Rick Thompson, administrator of Insurance and Internal Support for the Idaho Department of Administration.

Benefits comparable to private sector
Health insurance benefits for state employees in Idaho are comparable to those available to workers in the private sector, according a recent survey by the Idaho Department of Administration. The survey of eight major employers in Idaho revealed that state health benefits generally fell in the middle of the spectrum – in some cases lower than the private sector, in others higher.

Statewide meetings to outline insurance options
A series of statewide meetings that explain the open enrollment process and health insurance options for state employees will begin next week and continue through May 11. The series is presented by the Department of Administration’s Office of Group Insurance.

Board listens to plan for casino interchange in Lewiston
The Idaho Transportation Board began its summer season of monthly meetings across the state with a tour and business meeting in District 2, April 18, 19. The Wednesday district tour began with an introduction of the Nez Perce Tribe’s Clearwater River Casino along U.S. 95. Board members met with tribal officials to discuss matters of mutual concern.

ITD provides input for reauthorization discussion
Like many rural states in the West, Idaho faces a severe challenge in maintaining and improving highways because of rapidly escalating construction costs and slowed revenue growth. Federal funding can help forestall a crisis or hasten it. That generally was a message the Idaho Transportation Board and a coalition of four other western states forwarded recently to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission.

Public Affairs renamed Office of Communications
The Office of Public Affairs has been renamed to better reflect its diverse mission, Director Pam Lowe announced last week. The new title is Office of Communications.The office provides a variety of services to assist the department in fulfilling its mission.

Rallies to draw attention to motorcycle safety
A public awareness campaign along with motorcycle safety rallies across the state are planned as ITD joins with highway safety and law enforcement agencies in proclaiming May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Throughout the month, motorists will be reminded to “Share the Road” with motorcycles and to be extra alert when driving to help keep motorcycle riders safe.

ITD employees at Headquarters can demonstrate their visual talents by participating in a new photography contest as part of 2007 Employee Appreciation Week, May 7-11. Events are being planned throughout the week to celebrate the contributions of state employees.
