Slide closes U.S. 95 near Lucille
A steep rocky wall that overshadows U.S. 95 along the Salmon River near Lucille shed some of its exterior late Saturday, interrupting Idaho’s primary north-south highway. Rocks cascaded down the moisture-saturated hillside and over protective retaining fences and jersey barriers, forcing overnight closure of the highway.

Classified employees to receive merits on June 17 paychecks
Notices were distributed this week to ITD classified employees who qualify for one-time, short-term merit increases authorized by the Idaho Transportation Board. Those temporary merits will be evident in larger paychecks next week, June 17.

AAMVA honors Davis for work on Spanish CDL manual

Becky Davis doesn’t speak, write, or understand Spanish, but she recently won a national customer service award for her work on revising ITD’s Spanish language Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) manual. Davis, an IT production specialist in Administrative Services, received the 2004 Customer Services Delivery Support Staff Star Search Award from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).

Board to discuss STIP next week
The Idaho Transportation Board will begin its three-day schedule in District 6 with a workshop focusing on the draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and FY07. The Wednesday (June 15) budget/work session will be at the Idaho Falls Public Library because of scheduling conflicts.

Idaho Falls business honored for clean-up efforts
Few people know U.S. 20 near Idaho Falls as intimately as Jim Pletscher. He walks two sections of the highway alone several times a year picking up after others as part of the Idaho Transportation Department’s Adopt-A-Highway program. For his efforts, he will receive the District 6 Adopt-A-Highway group of the year award on behalf of Lyn's Linens next week during the Transportation Board’s meeting in Idaho Falls.

Public transit option opens in Mountain Home
Mountain Home, best known for its Air Force base and fighter jets has a new, slower form of transportation. ITD’s Division of Public Transportation joined Mountain Home Air Force Base, the city of Mountain Home and Treasure Valley Transit, Inc. to bring public transportation to the southern Idaho region.

Motorists have been enjoying it for nearly a year; they’ve even started taking it for granted on their daily work commutes or cross-state journeys. But the professional attention continues for the WYE Interchange on Interstate 84 in Boise.

New state income tax schedules announced
The Idaho Tax Commission last week issued a new Idaho Income Tax withholding booklet that helps wage-earners determine the most appropriate amount of taxes to have withheld from their paychecks. Employees will notice the new tax rates on their June 17 paycheck.
