Board to consider draft of new STIP
The Idaho Transportation Board will begin its three-day visit to District 3 with its annual workshop on the draft budget and Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) on Monday (June 18). The STIP identifies transportation projects that have been selected through an inclusive and ongoing process.

Statewide Truck Rodeo

Freeman returns as top 'roadeo' driver
Twenty-four of ITD’s best equipment operators from throughout the state assembled this week to demonstrate their skills and compete for a chance to represent Idaho at the regional finals this fall in Colorado. The 2007 Statewide Truck Rodeo included the top foreman and top three maintenance workers emerging from the six district roadeos held in May and early June.

By making it to the state finals you demonstrated your commitment to your job and your ability to do it with precision. Adopt-A-Highway Program

Inmate detail to receive Adopt-A-Highway award
Motorists traveling Interstate 84 in Canyon County won’t notice anything usual along the highways as they make the 23-mile journey. That’s a credit to a constantly changing group of inmates who routinely scour the shoulders for trash and debris. The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office began assigning inmates to regular cleanup campaigns in the 1980s, long before ITD initiated its statewide Adopt-A-Highway program.

Young 'caretakers' to receive special commendation
Zoe and Maya Simkins want to leave their mark on the environment by removing the marks that others leave behind. At age 12 and 9 respectively, they find it difficult to comprehend why people carelessly and thoughtlessly discard trash in public places for others to pick up — such as Parnell Beach along pristine Porter Creek north of Horseshoe Bend.

Workshops help teachers incorporate aeronautics
ITD's Division of Aeronautics is sponsoring three two-day Teacher Aviation Workshops this summer to demonstrate how aviation subjects can be incorporated into regular classroom lessons.The workshops are scheduled for June 18, 19 in Boise, June 21, 22 in Idaho Falls and July 12, 13 in Coeur d'Alene.

Boise-area drivers declared safest in region
If you live and drive in the Boise area you’re less likely to have a motor vehicle crash than your counterparts in other metropolitan areas in the western U.S. Statistics released this week by Allstate Insurance Company reveal that Boise-area drivers are the safest in the company’s Northwest Region and ranked 14th nationally.

District 4 parade entry spreads word on 511
They lined the streets, creating a gauntlet for fire trucks, farm equipment, horses and marching bands. And appearing prominently near the front of the parade pack at the annual Western Days celebration in Twin Falls last week was a reminder from the transportation department to check on winter driving conditions before starting a journey.

Campaign targets aggressive driving behavior
With aggressive driving contributing to more than half of all crashes in Idaho. Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will conduct aggressive driving campaigns June 10-23 and July 15-28 in a concerted attempt to reduce aggressive behavior. The campaigns will target drivers who speed, drive too fast for conditions, follow too close, fail to yield right-of-way, pass stop signs and disregard signals
