Auditors rave about quality of Boise conference
Professionals from 43 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico gained new insight into their roles as transportation department auditors and an appreciation for Idaho’s natural amenities this week during a four-day conference in Boise. The annual meeting of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Subcommittee on Audit attracted 114 participants and another 30-plus companions for a series of presentations on internal and external audits.

Seat belt use climbs 2 percent in Idaho; lives still being lost
Seat belt use among Idahoans continues to rise, reaching an average of 74 percent and reflecting more than a 2 percent increase over last year according to a recent announcement by the Idaho Office of Highway Safety (IOHS). The office conducted a seat belt usage survey in June. The survey reveals that nearly 79 percent of Idahoans use seat belts in passenger cars, 79 percent in vans and sport utility vehicles and 62 percent in pickup trucks.

District 4 adds part-time public affairs specialist
Amy E. Lierman of Filer recently joined the Idaho Transportation Department in Shoshone as the Public Affairs Specialist. She will serve as spokesperson for ITD’s District 4, prepare news releases, respond to public and media inquiries, and assist with the department’s Internet-based road report.
