Board
to hear report on highway safety programs
The Office of Highway Operations and Safety, which administers
the Federal Highway Safety Grant Program for ITD, will
present a report to the transportation board next week
on activities planned in the coming fiscal year to improve
safety on Idaho’s highways. The board will meet
Thursday at the District 3 office on Chinden Boulevard.

Groundbreaking
set for first Connecting Idaho project
A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of
the first Connecting Idaho project – U.S. 30 Topaz
to Lava Hot Springs – will be Friday (Aug. 18),
the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Gov. Jim
Risch and Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Frank Bruneel
are among the officials scheduled to participate in the
ceremony southeast of Pocatello.

Three
major IT modernization projects under way
Although many ITD employees won’t notice much difference
in their daily computer use, three major projects taking
place in the background will have significant impacts
on the department’s technology infrastructure. The
department has launched an Information Technology Infrastructure
Modernization initiative to significantly upgrade hardware
that run its complex array of computer programs.

Assembly
to be honored for highway cleanup
A
citizen’s group in Council believes one of the best
cures for unsightly highway litter is prevention. That’s
why they added an educational/advocacy component to their
commitment to clean the shoulders of U.S. 95 in Adams
County. Yahweh 666 Warning Assembly has cleaned eight
miles of the highway, two in ITD’s District 3 and
six in District 2.

Before venturing out on a hazardous trip through cyberspace,

McCall
Family Fly-In runs through Sunday
The fifth annual McCall Family Fly-In will bring together
pilots, their families and aviation enthusiasts from throughout
the Northwest, beginning today and continuing through
Monday at the McCall Airport. The event is sponsored by
ITD’s Division of Aeronautics. Once a safety program
for pilots and their aircraft, the Fly-In has evolved
into an activity that attracts flying enthusiasts from
throughout the region

Administrative
assistant workshop planned Sept. 14
Administrative assistants from throughout Idaho will assemble
at the Nazareth Retreat Center, 4450 N. five Mile Road,
in Boise Sept. 14 for the 18th annual Administrative Support
Workshop. The all-day professional development workshop
provides an opportunity for ITD’s administrative
assistants to learn how to do their jobs better, improve
relationships with others in similar positions and exchange
techniques for success.

Ride
Idaho to finish Saturday in Lowman
More than
100 bicyclists this weekend will complete in a non-competitive,
supported ride through south central Idaho. The ride
began Sunday (Aug. 6) in Melba and ends in Lowman on
Saturday (Aug. 12). ITD urges motorists to use caution
when encountering riders along the highways, and seeks
support for their cycling teams.

Caution
urged to prevent West Nile virus
Conditions are nearly perfect near bodies
of water in southwest Idaho for mosquitoes to hatch,
flourish and antagonize humans. The flying pests also
carry a significant health risk – the potentially
deadly West Nile virus. ITD’s Jeff Miles recently
shared information about the virus with fellow employees.
