Northwest Mountain Family Fly-In
It's all about safe flying ... and so much more
The Family Fly-In, sponsored by ITD’s Division of Aeronautics, was true to its name, providing a variety of activities for families, aviation enthusiasts and pilots. While the emphasis remains on pilot education and safety, this year’s event expanded to include a broad range of activities for non-pilots.

Scouts earn merit badges for participation
Boy Scouts gathered on the McCall Airport tarmac during the annual McCall Fly-In last weekend (Aug. 14) to learn the basics of aviation and airport management. It was all part of earning their aviation merit badges.

Pilots learn fine art of Dutch oven cooking

The host of a nationally televised cooking show and author of several cookbooks, Cee Dub (Butch Welch) led two Dutch oven cooking demonstrations at the McCall Family Fly-In. Given the opportunity, he happily spreads “the gospel of Dutch oven cooking,” and peppers each cooking demonstration with humorous tales of the backcountry.

ITD forwards list of legislative proposals
The search for missing aircraft would become the responsibility of the Idaho Air National Guard, chain-up would become mandatory when winter conditions warrant and authority would be given to increase the maximum speed on the Idaho’s non-interstate highways. All three changes could be implemented if the Idaho Transportation Department’s list of potential legislation advances to the 2005 Legislature and is subsequently approved.

Board honors former ITD engineer
Former ITD engineer James L. Pline, president of Pline Engineering, Inc. in Boise, was awarded the Theodore M. Matson Memorial Award at the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2004 annual meeting in Florida. The Idaho Transportation Board acknowledged Pline's achievements and the prestigious honor during its monthly meeting this week in Coeur d'Alene.

Motorists, children urged to use caution as schools open
Bicycles that have served as source of recreation for youngsters this summer return to their more utilitarian purpose this time of year – providing transportation to and from school for children throughout Idaho. Those who don’t peddle two-wheelers to school usually walk, board buses or catch rides in private vehicles. Regardless of the mode of travel, the pilgrimage back to school each fall evokes warnings of extra caution.

Open enrollment for life insurance begins Sept. 1
ITD employees have an opportunity to purchase additional life insurance through the Voluntary Group Life Plan, underwritten by the Prudential Insurance Company of America. The plan is administered by Gallagher Byerly, Inc. The open enrollment period begins Sept. 1 and continues through Nov. 30.
