ITD assists in battle to control wildfire near Idaho 55
It was an odd image that was carried on Treasure Valley television stations this week – an ITD snowplow pressed into service as a pilot car, leading motorists through a smoke-enveloped segment of Idaho 55 north of Eagle. A Labor Day weekend fire erupted near Banks, about 32 miles north of Boise, briefly threatening the ITD Banks maintenance facility and forcing intermittent closures.

DMV puts ITD's best foot forward at Western Idaho Fair
For the seventh consecutive year, ITD was part of a party for a quarter-million guests in Boise last month. Division of Motor Vehicles employees staffed a booth at the Western Idaho Fair Aug. 17-26, providing public exposure to ITD services and programs. DMV provided staff for a booth from the fair’s opening bell, 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17 through 9 p.m. on Aug. 26.

Harelson helps keep traffic flowing during race
Consider the impact that a cavalcade of 1,000 bike racers and a like number of support vehicles can have on highways and small communities during a period of four hours. Logistics require the precision of a surgeon. Dan Harelson is no doctor, but he’s proven to be pretty good at operations the past five years as he worked with organizers of the annual Logan, Utah, to Jackson, Wyo., (LOTOJA) bike race and communities impacted by the ride.

Bridge deck research presented; calls issued for RFPs
ITD employees interested in learning about cost-effective techniques for improving bridge deck life through reduced cracking turned out for a morning presentation recently by researchers from the University of Kansas. Professor David Darwin and student Will Lindquist discussed results of an initial research project on “Construction of Crack-Free Concrete Bridge Decks.”

The Idaho Transportation Department will join about two dozen regional law enforcement and public safety organizations Saturday to showcase career options and help the public become familiar with their employment needs. ITD will be among the public organizations staffing tables in front of the Ada County/Boise City Police building at 7200 Barrister St.
