Board to conclude road meetings in District 5
The Idaho Transportation Board will conclude its 2004 statewide tour by conducting its monthly meeting Sept. 14-15 in Pocatello. The board alternates meetings among each of the state’s six districts and Headquarters in Boise every spring and summer. As part of its regional tour, the board will meet with officials from the Utah Department of Transportation in Preston to discuss improvements to the U.S. 89 and U.S. 91 corridors.

Two-week campaign focus on increased seat belt use
Idahoans will be encouraged to “Click It, Don’t Risk It!” Sept. 13-26 as part of a campaign by the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Traffic and Highway Safety (OTHS) to increase seat belt use statewide. The campaign reminds motorists about the importance of using seat belts and making sure that friends and family also buckle up.

ITD to roll out red carpet for Moscow project
Getting into and out of Moscow from the south just got a lot easier. And smoother. And faster. The Idaho Transportation Department recently finished rebuilding U.S. 95 from the South Fork Palouse River Bridge to Sweet Avenue, providing four travel lanes, a center turn lane and a new five-lane bridge at the southern city limit. And that’s reason to celebrate.

Landscaping with a positive reflection
The tranquil sound of rushing water as it feeds a peaceful pond... A sanctuary from summer heat... A place to collect thoughts and release anxiety. Such places are common in northern Idaho. Now, thanks to the efforts of Pam Knapp, their number has grown by one and ITD employees don't have to travel far to enjoy the serenity.

Administrative workshop to focus on change
Frederick Wilcox said, “Progress involves risks. You can’t steal second and keep your foot on first.” And you can’t have progress without change. If nothing changes, you’ll stay on first base. Changes are constantly occurring in the transportation arena, and the focus of this year’s Administrative Workshop is change, with a theme of “Riding the Waves of Change.”

District 5 to honor Adopt-A-Highway groups
What do the Choo Choo Square Dancers and Dingle Ward Young Men & Young Women have in common? More than meets the eye. Both Pocatello groups share a commitment to keep Idaho beautiful and free of roadside litter. And both will be honored next week for their participation in the Idaho Transportation Department’s Adopt-a-Highway program.

ITD recently earned two international awards from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). The Public Affairs and Consumer Education (PACE) awards recognize creativity, cost effectiveness and the ability to reach customers through public affairs and consumer education work.

Workshop for first responders planned in Lewiston
A three-day hands-on emergency preparedness conference Oct. 7-9 in Lewiston will provide first responders in north central Idaho the training to handle emergencies on roads and highways. The Idaho State University Institute of Emergency Management (IEM) will provide the training at no cost to qualified first responders. All sessions will be at the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston.
