An old maximum suggests that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. At a time of year when the need is greatest, Idaho's state employees are asked to dig the deepest into their pockets to help charitable organizations statewide meet their clients' needs.

Study finds low number of youngsters in booster seats
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released results of a major survey showing that relatively few children who should be riding in booster seats are doing so. The nationwide telephone survey indicates that just 21 percent of children age 4-8 are “at least on occasion” riding in a booster seat.

ITD drivers compete at national 'Roadeo'
The champion and runner-up at ITD’s annual Roadeo competition advance to the annual Western Snow & Ice Conference and Roadeo in Colorado to match their skills with other drivers from throughout the nation. Dale Fremont and George Shutes participated in the national competition Sept. 27-Oct. 1 at the Denver International Airport Holiday Inn.

Campaign emphasizes preventive health
The ITD wellness council will launch a statewide information program this fall to help employees remain healthy through the winter cold and flu season. The campaign will focus on preventive measures. Because of the vaccine shortage nationwide, ITD will not be able to offer the widespread vaccination program it has in the past.

Board affirms ITD's commitments to rest areas
At the July 2004 board meeting in Twin Falls, the transportation board recognized the service rest areas provide to the traveling public and the influence they have on travelers’ impressions of the state. They agreed to allocate approximately $10 million annually for the statewide rest area program.

UI hybrid truck features new hydraulic element
A prototype hydraulic-hybrid pickup truck in development by University of Idaho students debuted last month at the INEEL Science and Engineering Expo in Idaho Falls and at Idaho Department of Transportation’s conference on transportation investment in Boise.
