gained national attention for her organization,
Chefs to the Rescue, that distributes food to
the hungry in the Treasure Valley Formerly homeless
and a mother of five, Sue Cobley took a difficult
personal situation and turned it into a blessing
for others in the same plight.

McHugh approaches second retirement
The year was 1995. John
McHugh had just retired from 38 years as a successful
certified public accountant in Coeur d’Alene.
He had time on his hands and was looking for a place
to spend it. Gov. Phil Batt had openings to fill.
Among them was a six-year term on the Idaho Transportation
Board.

Employment 'odometer' passes 100,000 and keeps rolling
Car
owners often know exactly when and where the odometer
on their cherished auto rolls past the 100,000-mile
mark; it’s a milestone worth noting…
and celebrating. Much rarer in today’s workplace
is documenting the time and place your employment
odometer passes 100,000 hours – the equivalent
of nearly 48 years of service. Terry Jacobsen watched
the six digits come and go in September, on an otherwise
routine day in the District 5 materials testing
lab.

Seat
belt usage rate unchanged in 2006
Nationwide,
seat belt use remained statistically unchanged but
motorcycle helmet use rose slightly in 2006, according
to a newly released study by the U.S. Department
of Transportation. Data from the National Occupant
Protection Use Survey (NOPUS) showed that seat belt
use in the U.S. now stands at 81 percent, down slightly
from the 2005 rate of 82 percent.

Draft
of STIP available
Limited
copies of ITD’s five-year construction guide
– the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program
(STIP) are available to preview, although it still
awaits federal approval. The STIP, a spiral-bound
publication about the size of a telephone book, identifies
approximately $1 billion in transportation-related
projects planned for construction through the year
2011.
