The purpose of the STIP is to provide for a fiscally sound, five-year capital improvement plan for the state’s surface transportation program. The STIP contains information on modal and special program projects as well as local regionally significant projects (transportation projects with high public interest or impacts) and projects serving national parks, national forests, and Indian reservations.
The STIP is more than just a document; it is an integrated process for transportation planning and project selection. Idaho’s STIP has been developed through a coordinated and cooperative process involving citizens, elected officials, tribal governments, other state and federal agencies, each of Idaho’s six metropolitan planning organizations (MPO), the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) and other interested organizations.
Decisions as to which projects are to be included in or deleted from the STIP are based on considerable thought and input. The Idaho Transportation Board and ITD staff needs your input to ensure that future decisions are meeting the needs of the community and that projects are being prioritized correctly. Ultimately, your input will enable department staff and the Board to make decisions on how our limited funding should be used.
We appreciate you taking time to comment on Idaho’s five-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. The input you provide on these and future projects will be reviewed by the Idaho Transportation Board and ITD staff.
