Project nears completion on I-84 between Twin Falls and Jerome
SHOSHONE - Traffic on Interstate 84 between Jerome and Twin Falls will once again travel all lanes as the reconstruction project nears completion, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Completion of the work is expected on Sept. 7. The Jerome Rest Area and all four lanes will be open for the Labor Day Weekend beginning on Friday (Aug. 31).

In addition to creating a smoother, safer road surface, other highlights include an increased clearance height at the South Jerome interchange (exit 168) to 17 feet and improvements to the Jerome Rest Area at milepost 170. The rest area has been equipped with additional parking - bringing the total to 30 car stalls - and a new pump house to replace one destroyed by wild fire.

"Overall, the project was a success," said ITD Resident Engineer Kimbol Allen. "While the construction did cause an inconvenience for local drivers through the busy summer months, this project will ensure this very busy section of interstate will continue to serve the community and state as a safe driving surface for several years to come. We want to thank the public for their cooperation and patience."

The rehabilitation project closes out at an estimated cost of about $9.7 million. More than 100,000 tons of new asphalt pavement was incorporated into the reconstructed roadway.

Western Construction of Boise was the project contractor.
