One lane of travel will remain open on Idaho 55 through Thursday
BOISE - One lane of travel on Idaho 55 will remain open to motorists through Thursday, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
A controlled burn was being considered along the section of Idaho 55 north of Horseshoe Bend and just south of the Banks to Lowman route, which also is Idaho 17.
Idaho Transportation Department District 3 Maintenance Manager Dan Bryant said a controlled burn will be considered for Friday. Bryant said weather experts were monitoring temperatures and weather conditions to determine if a controlled burn would be necessary. In that case, both lanes of the highway would close for the burn.
Idaho 55 was closed on Tuesday at about 12:30 p.m. when debris from the Chief Parrish Fire started landing on the highway. The highway reopened to one lane of travel on Wednesday afternoon. The stretch of Idaho 55 affected is about 4 1/2 miles long. Pilot cars will continue to guide northbound and southbound vehicles through this section. Motorists are advised to expect 20- to 25-minute delays.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Chief Parrish Fire had burned at least 2,800 acres.
