New I-84 off-ramp lane temporarily opens at Eagle Road Saturday (Sept. 8)
BOISE - A dedicated Interstate 84 off-ramp lane at Eagle Road will open temporarily to traffic early Saturday morning (Sept. 8), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The ramp is being temporarily opened to help motorists during nighttime I-84 lane closures for the Locust Grove Overpass project. During the nighttime lane closures, westbound traffic will be detoured off I-84 at the Eagle Road Interchange and rerouted to the Meridian Road Interchange.
The I-84 Eagle Road Westbound Off-ramp project began in April. It includes two new turn lanes at the existing off-ramp, new turn signals at the intersection, and a 1,600-foot extension of the off-ramp onto I-84. The new turn lanes opened in July. The project will be complete when permanent signage is installed Tuesday night (Sept. 11).
The $2.5 million project will reduce traffic backups at the interstate exit and improve traffic flow at the intersection with Eagle Road. It was the first project in the Treasure Valley to use funding from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds. The program allows ITD to use bond proceeds to build needed highway improvements in less time than through traditional funding methods.
WF Construction of Meridian is the contractor for the I-84 Eagle Road Westbound Off-ramp project.
