Franklin Road traffic pattern to shift Tuesday (Sept. 18) for next phase of Franklin Interchange Project
BOISE - East- and westbound traffic on Franklin Road near Interstate 84 will be shifted at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 18), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Motorists will be directed onto the newly reconstructed south half of the roadway and across the south half of the new I-84 overpass. This new configuration is expected to stay in place until the fall of 2008.

Traffic has been traveling on the north side of the roadway and across the old overpass.

This shift coincides with the next phase of the Franklin Road Interchange Project. The next phase includes construction of the north half of the roadway, the eastbound off-ramp, the westbound on-ramp and the north half of the new overpass.

Also, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sept. 19, 20 and 21, east- and westbound traffic will be detoured around the Franklin Road Interchange via the on- and off-ramps. The detour will allow crews to proceed with demolition of the old overpass.

The project will lengthen and widen all four interchange ramps at their intersection with Franklin Road. The project includes building a new overpass with two through lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes in each direction.

The project also will widen Franklin Road from two to five lanes on both sides of a new interchange overpass. The improved road will have a curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder.

Construction is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2008.
