Construction on busy Holmes/Anderson intersection in Idaho Falls to start Monday (Sept. 24)
RIGBY - Construction on the intersection of Holmes Avenue and Anderson Street will begin on Monday (Sept. 24), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will resurface the busy intersection and replace the railroad crossing that runs through it. The project is scheduled for completion on Friday (Oct. 5).
On Monday (Sept. 24) at 7 a.m., ITD will detour north-south traffic on Holmes Avenue at Anderson Street. Turn lanes from Anderson Street to Holmes also will be closed.
During construction, travel on Anderson Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Night crews also are upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection this week.
The project will remove three inches of the existing concrete road surface and break it into smaller pieces. The road will then be overlayed with asphalt. The project will extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother driving surface.
The project is a joint effort of ITD and the Eastern Idaho Railroad.
H-K Contractors Inc. of Idaho Falls is the contractor for the $573,634 project.
Motorists should watch for traffic signs in the area, along with workers and equipment.
