Open house to discuss reconstruction of Robinson Road and Black Cat Road overpasses, Oct. 11
BOISE - The public is invited to an open house to discuss the design and reconstruction of the Interstate 84 overpasses on Robinson and Black Cat roads Thursday, Oct. 11, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The  open house will be held  from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 5750 East Franklin road in Nampa.  The project team will present the preliminary designs and construction staging and ask for input.

Reconstruction of the overpasses will allow additional east- and westbound lanes to be built on I-84 between the Garrity Boulevard Interchange and the Meridian Road Interchange.

Environmental work is complete and the preliminary design is under way. Construction is expected to begin in Summer 2008.

Reconstruction of the overpasses is part of the I-84, Garrity Interchange to Meridian Interchange Project. The I-84, Garrity to Meridian project will design and build an additional east- and westbound lane on I-84 between Garrity Boulevard and Meridian Road. The additional lanes are expected to relieve existing traffic congestion, increase capacity and improve safety.

The Garrity to Meridian project was identified in the I-84 Corridor Study, conducted by the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and ITD. The study examined the transportation system needs for I-84 from Idaho 44, west of Caldwell to the WYE Interchange in Boise.

This project is part of a series of I-84 improvements funded by the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to design and construct needed improvements throughout the state in less time than traditional funding sources require.
