Slope stabilization along U.S. 93 between Carmen and North Fork to start Monday (Oct. 15)
RIGBY - Slope stabilization along U.S. 93 between Carmen and North Fork will start on Monday (Oct. 15), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Crews will remove loose rock from slopes and install retaining mesh on various stretches.
Motorists can expect 20-minute delays as flaggers stop traffic for crews to remove rock from the slopes, some of which may fall on the highway. Crews will work from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled for completion on Nov. 2.
Teams of three persons each will repel down the rocky slopes to dislodge loose rock and to fortify the mountain face with wire mesh. Crews also will plant native grasses, brushes and flowers to discourage erosion.
Motorists should watch for rock on the road and for construction equipment along the highway.
ITD conducts slope stabilization (rock scaling) each year to reduce falling rock.
