Future roadway corridor near McDermott Road to be discussed at public meeting Nov. 1
BOISE - A public information meeting will be held to discuss a new roadway corridor connecting Interstate 84 (I-84) and Idaho 44 near the junction of Idaho 16, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The meeting will be held in an open-house style from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Birch Elementary School, 6900 Birch Lane in Nampa.  The public is encouraged to attend any time during the four-hour period.

Meeting attendees will be asked to review and comment on the alternatives being carried forward in the evaluation process.  Based on input from the last public meeting and technical analysis, the study team recommended that three action alternatives and one no action alternative be carried forward for further study.  The far west and far east concepts presented at earlier public meetings were eliminated from further consideration.

There will be additional opportunities for the public to participate in this study, including a hearing planned for early 2009. Comments can be provided any time by visiting ITD's web site at itd.idaho.gov (click on Projects; choose Southwest Idaho; select I-84 to Idaho 44 Environmental Study) or mailed to Public Involvement Coordinator, PO Box 7129, Boise, ID 83707.

The Idaho 16, I-84 to Idaho 44 Environmental Study is funded through the initial Grant Anticipated Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds authorized by the 2006 Legislature.  GARVEE is an innovative way for Idaho to use bond proceeds to build more highway projects in less time than through traditional funding methods.  The bonds will be repaid with future federal highway dollars.  Additional funding will be needed to purchase right-of-way and construct the roadway.
