Nov. 6 open house will present information about long-term I-84 improvements
BOISE - An open house will be held Nov. 6 to discuss long-term improvements for Interstate 84 (I-84) from the Karcher Interchange to Five Mile Road, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The open house meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 1789 S. Eagle Road in Meridian.

ITD is conducting a comprehensive study following National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) requirements to develop possible alternatives for long-range highway improvements.  A conceptual plan will be developed that identifies design options for the interstate mainline and existing interchanges.  Several studies including noise and air quality analysis, along with traffic, structure, and geotechnical studies are currently being conducted.  Information about these studies will be available for review at the open house.

The study also includes a collaborative involvement process with the public, local jurisdictions and property owners to determine the best improvement options.  This is one of several opportunities the public will have to provide input.

At the open house, attendees are invited to discuss their ideas for improvements such as adding lanes, and replacing existing interchanges, overpasses and bridges on the interstate.

ITD will use Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to fund the I-84, Karcher Interchange to Five Mile Road Environmental Study.  GARVEE allows Idaho to use bond proceeds to build more highway projects in less time than through traditional funding methods. The bonds will be repaid with future federal highway dollars.
