RIGBY -  Sunnyside Road will open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 31), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews have widened a two-lane section of Sunnyside to five lanes, from the newly constructed Sunnyside/Yellowstone intersection to Holmes Avenue. The new five-lane Sunnyside Road now runs from the Interstate 15 Sunnyside Interchange to Ammon.

H-K Contractors Inc. of Idaho Falls completed the $10 million project on schedule. The contractor also finished a sound wall along the south side of the road, which was scheduled for completion on Dec. 4. H-K began the project on March 19.

The new roadway includes curb and gutter, sidewalks, pathways, street lights, traffic signals, landscaping, storm sewers, and the sound wall. Installation of traffic signals was completed in the last few days.

Sponsored by the city of Idaho Falls, the project was administered by ITD using federal funds.

The expansion project was a companion project to the three-year, $23 million Sunnyside Interchange project completed in November of last year, which connected I-15 to Sunnyside Road.

H-K crews will seal coat the new roadway next summer.
