Two open-house meetings scheduled on U.S. 12 project
LEWISTON - Citizens will have an opportunity to learn about and comment on a proposal to widen a 23-mile segment of U.S. 12 east of Kooskia, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
ITD invites area residents to drop by either of two informational meetings -- Nov. 14, at the Kooskia City Hall, 26 S. Main St., or at the Fenn Ranger Station on Nov. 19. The Kooskia meeting will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The second meeting will be from noon to 7 p.m. at the ranger station, located about five miles south of Lowell on the Selway Road.
Both meetings will be conducted in an open-house format, enabling interested persons to drop by anytime during the scheduled hours for information or to provide comments. Transportation planners will be on hand to discuss the project and gather input.
The project includes widening U.S. 12 between mileposts 91 and 114 (Syringa Creek to Tumble Creek) to 28 feet and installing retaining walls on portions of both sides of the highway. Other highway improvements include replacing stream crossings at Bimerick, Apgar and Glade creeks with structures that enhance fish movement and improve the environment.
The U.S. Forest Service is funding design and construction of the fish passage structures.
ITD planners want to discuss any concerns the public may have about the project and will report results to the Idaho Transportation Board.
Questions about the meetings can be directed to Ken Helm at the ITD District 2 office in Lewiston, (208) 799-5090.
