Closures to begin Monday on SH-41, Mullan Avenue, and I-90 ramps

POST FALLS – The Idaho Transportation Department will close parts of State Highway 41, Mullan Avenue, and the I-90 westbound ramps at night starting Monday, April 8. The closures will allow crews to shift traffic into a new lane configuration to reconstruct the intersection of SH-41 and Mullan Avenue.

From Monday to Wednesday nights (April 8, 9, 10):

  • SH-41 will be closed from Seltice Way to 12th Avenue.
  • Mullan Avenue will be closed at the SH-41 intersection.
  • I-90 westbound on- and off-ramps will be closed.
  • Closures will be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.
  • Detours will be in place for local traffic and I-90 traffic. See attached map.
  • Flaggers will be directing traffic for local access to homes and businesses each night.

Starting early next week:

  • Traffic on SH-41 and Mullan Avenue will have 24/7 lane restrictions for several months and access to businesses will change while crews rebuild the intersection.
  • SH-41 will be restricted from five lanes to three lanes. There will be two southbound lanes and one northbound lane. Turning traffic must use the through lanes to make right or left turns.
  • The west side of Mullan Avenue will be restricted from five lanes to two lanes.
  • Highland Crossing businesses will need to use Mullan Avenue and Regal Court. See attached map.
  • Pedestrians will be detoured around the SH-41/Mullan Avenue intersection to October Glory Road until early summer.

“Our crews will need the community’s patience over the next several months,” said Project Manager Shannon Stein. “Our goal is to keep this intersection – and access to businesses – open throughout the reconstruction. Please plan plenty of time when traveling through this area.”

When complete, the expanded intersection of Mullan and SH-41 will address congestion. In addition, ITD will connect all signals along SH-41 to be able to synchronize the signals to improve the flow of traffic.

This work is part of the I-90/SH-41 Interchange reconstruction project.  The best way to stay informed about construction is to sign up for email updates at itdprojects.idaho.gov/pages/i90sh41ic or by calling 208-738-4190.

The Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds through Governor Little’s “Leading Idaho” initiative has allowed this $78 million interchange reconstruction project to begin earlier than expected. This program has allowed ITD to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise have taken many years to fund and build.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
