Census Bureau Director Santos kicks off national data conference in Boise
BOISE – U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Santos spoke to more than 375 data professionals from across the world in downtown Boise Monday morning (June 3), as part of the National Travel Monitoring Exposition and Conference (NaTMEC) hosted by the Idaho Transportation Department.
In his keynote address, Director Santos focused on the importance of working together, planning together and helping each other out.
“It is our mission to give you the data that you need in a form that’s understandable, in a form that’s usable and in a form that’s culturally relevant,” said Director Santos. “I am here to listen and understand your data needs and take that back to our staff so that we can develop better tools and release statistical data that is more useful to you.”
This year’s conference theme is "connecting communities through travel monitoring."
ITD Director Scott Stokes welcomed everyone to the City of Trees and talked about the different landmarks throughout the Gem State.
The goal of NaTMEC is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of multimodal traffic monitoring programs to enhance data-driven decisions in areas like planning and design, safety and performance management.
NaTMEC runs through Wednesday at the Boise Centre. For more information on the conference and to see the agenda, please visit www.natmec.org
