ITD implementing safety enhancements around two schools in Emmett
EMMETT – The Idaho Transportation Department, in partnership with the city of Emmett, Emmett school administrators, and local law enforcement, is implementing safety enhancements around Emmett High School and the Payette River Regional Technical Academy. These improvements are part of a collaborative effort to address school traffic mobility and highway safety.
The updated safety measures are being implemented along State Highway 16 and State Highway 52, near the schools. Key improvements include:
- Installing a new safety sign package, featuring bright green school signage.
- Extending the 40 MPH speed zone to create a safer corridor for school traffic.
These changes are the result of several working group meetings conducted over the past months.
“This project demonstrates the positive results that can be achieved when local and state agencies work together to enhance safety,” Chief Deputy Director Dan McElhinney said. “These improvements aim to increase driver awareness, which is crucial when traveling near schools.”
The new safety signage is being installed this week while students are out on winter break. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant and watch for ITD’s sign crew working along the highway.
