Star Card pop-up office continues through May 16 – new Ada County location to open
BOISE — The Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is continuing to make it easier for Idaho residents to upgrade to a Star Card, Idaho’s REAL ID.
A temporary Star Card "pop-up office" remains open through May 16 at DMV Headquarters (HQ) located at 11331 W. Chinden Blvd., Building 8, in Boise. Walk-in service is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through the building’s front entrance. No appointment is required.
This pop-up location is dedicated exclusively to Star Card upgrades. New license issuance and standard renewals are not available at this site.
Starting May 19, the pop-up service will move to the Ada County Motor Vehicle office with the same days and hours of operation, located at 9115 W. Chinden Blvd #103 in Garden City. This transition reflects the continued collaboration between Ada County and the Idaho Transportation Department, working together to better serve the public with accessible, streamlined services.
Customers must bring the required documents in order to receive a Star Card. If all necessary documents are not presented, the Star Card cannot be issued. A complete checklist of acceptable documents is available at itd.idaho.gov/starcard, and it's strongly recommended to review the list before arriving.
Please note:
Only debit or credit cards are accepted at HQ (no cash or checks).
This is a limited-time service designed to help the influx of Idahoans who want to obtain a Star Card do so in a timely manner.
As of May 7, 2025, a Star Card or other federally approved ID is now required to fly domestically or enter certain federal facilities. If you already have a Star Card and need to renew it, you can Skip the Trip and do so online at dmv.idaho.gov.
This temporary service offers a quick, convenient way to upgrade your ID and stay compliant with federal travel requirements.
