Emergency repair work begins Saturday (Dec. 29) on westbound I-90 between Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls
COEUR d'ALENE - Emergency bridge deck repairs will begin tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 29) on three bridges on Interstate 90, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The bridges are located between the Northwest Boulevard Interchange and Huetter Rest Area, in the westbound lanes.
The bridge decks have deteriorated because of severe winter weather the area has been experiencing, and previous temporary repair work has not lasted due to the cold temperatures. Crews will begin work at 7:30 a.m., and it is expected to last through the afternoon. Traffic will be reduced to one lane westbound, with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph. The lowered speed limit will remain in place until further notice.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel through the work zone area, and observe the reduced speed limit. The transportation department reminds drivers that winter driving conditions exist, and they should adjust driving habits accordingly.
Crews will be using a quick setting compound on the concrete bridge decks as a temporary repair. More permanent repairs will be done in the spring, when temperatures and road surface conditions improve.
