Additional repair work begins Saturday (Jan. 5) on westbound I-90 between Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls
COEUR d'ALENE - Additional bridge deck repairs will begin tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 5) on three bridges on Interstate 90, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The bridges are located between the Northwest Boulevard Interchange and Huetter Rest Area, in the westbound lanes.
The asphalt overlay on the bridge decks continues to deteriorate because of severe winter weather. Crews will begin work at 7 a.m., and work is expected to last through Monday (Jan. 7). Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane, with a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the work zone. The speed limit will be 55 mph once repairs are completed, and will remain in place until further notice.
Crews will remove the asphalt overlay from each bridge deck, leaving the concrete surface in place. This work would normally be done in the spring, when temperatures and road surface conditions improve. However, the timetable was moved up due to the current conditions of the bridge deck surfaces.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel through the work zone and adhere to the reduced speed limit. The transportation department reminds drivers that winter driving conditions exist, and they should adjust driving habits accordingly.
