Section of SH-24 to temporarily close for interchange construction Friday
HEYBURN – Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and ending before 7 a.m. Monday, State Highway 24 will close under Interstate 84 at Exit 211. The closure will allow crews to install new bridge girders as part of the ongoing reconstruction of the Heyburn Interchange.
The following detours are in place to guide motorists through the project area.
- Westbound traffic on SH-24 will take the I-84 westbound on-ramp to route around the closure. At Burley (Exit 208) drivers will proceed up and over the interstate and take the I-84 eastbound off-ramp at Exit 211.
- Eastbound traffic on SH-24 will take the I-84 eastbound on-ramp toward the Declo Interchange (Exit 216) to route around the closure. Drivers will then take the off-ramp at Exit 216 to go up and over the interstate and rejoin I-84 via the westbound off-ramp at Exit 211.
Girders are horizontal structures that support heavy loads and are crucial in building bridges.
Construction has been underway since 2024 to update the Heyburn and Burley Interchanges to meet growing traffic demands and is anticipated to be complete in 2026.
The project is funded as part of Gov. Little’s Leading Idaho transportation funding initiative. The Leading Idaho initiative allows ITD to take a deliberate approach to advance large projects that will enhance safety, improve mobility, further strengthen Idaho’s economy, and positively impact the Magic Valley and communities across the state for years to come.
