Repair work begins Wednesday (Jan. 16) on westbound I-90 at the Idaho 41 Interchange
COEUR d'ALENE - Additional bridge deck repairs will begin Wednesday (Jan. 16) on the westbound lanes of the Interstate 90 bridge at the Idaho 41 Interchange, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The asphalt overlay on the bridge deck has deteriorated because of severe winter weather. Work will begin at 9 a.m., and will last through Thursday (Jan. 17).

Traffic will be reduced to one lane westbound, with a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the work zone.  Flaggers will assist motororists on Idaho 41. Motorists should expect delays at the westbound off-ramp at Idaho 41. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route, if possible.

Motorists should use caution as they travel through the work zone area, and observe the reduced speed limit. The transportation department reminds drivers that winter driving conditions exist, and they should adjust driving habits accordingly.

Crews will remove the asphalt overlay from the bridge deck, leaving the concrete surface in place. This work would normally be done in the spring, when temperatures and road surface conditions improve. However, the timetable was moved up due to the current condition of the bridge deck surface.
