Nighttime I-84 restrictions planned near Franklin Interchange Jan. 22 - Feb. 8
BOISE - East- and westbound Interstate 84 will be closed at night near the Exit 29/Franklin Interchange from Jan. 22 to Feb. 8 as part of the Franklin Interchange reconstruction project, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Motorists will be detoured to the off- and on-ramps at Exit 29 between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Interstate 84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for one hour before and after the closure.
The closure will allow construction crews to place girders for a new overpass at Franklin Road. Girder placement is expected to be complete by Friday, Feb. 8, but may be delayed due to weather.
Flaggers will direct interstate traffic through the detour area. Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic and delays on Franklin Road.
The Franklin Interchange reconstruction began in December 2006 to improve access to Caldwell from I-84 and ease congestion. The project includes building a new Franklin Road Overpass with two through lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes in each direction. Interstate 84 ramps will be lengthened and widened to two lanes where they intersect the overpass.
The project will widen Franklin Road from two to five lanes on both sides of the new overpass. The improved road will have a curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder. The rebuilding is on schedule to be finished in the fall of 2008.
