Blasting will cause brief closures in I-84 Franklin Interchange area Sunday (Feb. 24)
BOISE - Motorists will be delayed near the I-84 Franklin Interchange on Sunday morning (Feb. 24) while crews blast rock in the construction area, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
East- and westbound I-84 will be closed at Exit 29 (Franklin Road) beginning at 7:15 a.m. I-84 is expected to re-open no later than 7:45 a.m. The Franklin Road Overpass will be closed for approximately 10 minutes during the same period. Flaggers will direct traffic.
Gas pumps and parking at the Sage Travel Plaza will be restricted during the blast.
The blasting will remove rock under the eastbound on-ramp. It's part of the Franklin Road Interchange reconstruction project that began in December 2006. The project includes:

- Lengthening and widening all four interchange ramps at their intersections with Franklin Road.
- Building a new overpass with two through lanes in each direction and dual left-turn lanes in each direction.
- Widening Franklin Road from two to five lanes on both sides of a new interchange overpass. The improved road will have a curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder.
