Public invited to attend open house on I-84 projects in East Boise
BOISE - The public is invited to an open house on Thursday (April 3) to learn more about Interstate 84 construction projects that will improve driving conditions, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
GARVEE-funded projects, including interstate widening and new interchanges at Vista Avenue and Orchard Street, are progressing through the design phase. The projects will improve the roadway to safely accommodate anticipated traffic growth and maintain the corridor's vital role in the interstate system.
The public is invited to learn more about the projects' designs and anticipated construction impacts at the open house on Thursday at the Airport Holiday Inn, 3300 S. Vista Ave., Boise. People are encouraged to stop by anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. ITD and consultant staff will be on hand to answer questions and receive comments.
Informational displays and videos will be available on the following projects:
Project information is available on the Web at www.itd.idaho.gov by selecting Projects, Southwest Idaho and I-84, Orchard to Isaacs Canyon Corridor.
The I-84 East Projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses funding from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to construct needed highway improvements in less time than traditional funding methods allow.

Informational displays and videos will be available on the following projects:
- I-84 Widening, Cole Road to Broadway Avenue - Improvements will include two additional east and westbound lanes, 12-foot shoulders and a paved median. The improvements will be constructed as two projects; Cole to Vista (construction scheduled for 2009) and Vista to Broadway (construction scheduled for 2010).
- Orchard Street Interchange (construction scheduled for 2008) - The new interchange is a conventional diamond design that will realign and widen the ramps and roadway, improving traffic flow and signal timing. The project will relocate the overpass that crosses I-84 (west of the existing bridge) to better align with Orchard Street. Construction will require realigning a portion of Victory Road southwest of the interchange. The improved interchange will also include an additional lane at the ramp intersections on Orchard Street, and at the intersection of Victory and Orchard.
- Vista Avenue Interchange (construction scheduled for 2009) - The new Vista Interchange design is a single point urban interchange. This interchange is new in Idaho. It places all turning movements at the center of the interchange. Drivers make opposing left turns at the same time under the protection of a traffic signal.
- Soundwall Construction (construction scheduled for spring 2008) - ITD has finalized design of the soundwalls (also known as noise barriers) that will be constructed on I-84 beginning east of the Cole Road Interchange, and ending at the Broadway Interchange.
