Traveler's advisory issued for Eastern Idaho; four highways closed
RIGBY - A traveler's advisory has been issued for Eastern Idaho highways because of high winds and drifting snow.

Four highways were closed this morning.
  • U.S. 20, west of Idaho Falls
  • U.S. 26, Ririe to Swan Valley
  • Idaho 33, Newdale to Tetonia
  • Idaho 32, closed entire length

Motorists are warned that highways in the region that are open have limited visibility and have many slick spots. They should be driven with extreme caution.

"If you need to travel this morning, please slow down," Bruce King, a public information specialist for the transportation department, said. "If you can postpone your trip, you should."

Travelers are encouraged to check the 511 Traveler Services Web site (511.idaho.gov) or dial the phone system 5-1-1 for the latest closures and highway conditions. Reports are updated twice daily during the week, once each day on weekends, and anytime during the interim as conditions change.

To access the telephone system from areas near the Idaho border or from other states, motorists can call toll-free, (888) 432-7623.
