Interstate 15 / Interstate 86 interchange WYE bridges to be rehabilitated
POCATELLO - Construction began this week on the rehabilitation of three bridges at the Interstate 15/I-86 interchange (also known as the WYE) north of Pocatello, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The project includes replacing expansion joints on the bridge decks, repairing cracks, patching and repairing concrete substructures, repairing asphalt on the I-86W to I-15 ramp, repairing and replacing bridge signs, and traffic control.
Motorists can expect closures of highway shoulders and intermittent lane closures around the bridges and interchange. Closures will occur at night (approximately 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) on most weekdays through mid-July. Weekend nighttime closures are not expected.
The ramp at I-86W and I-15N also may be closed intermittently at night during some construction periods.
A short detour will be marked and remain in effect when the I-86W to I-15N ramp is closed. Occasional ramp closures will be necessary in the next several weeks. Motorists should expect short delays associated with using the detour.
Motorists who use the I-15/I-86 interchange at night should expect changing traffic control, occasional detours and minor delays during the rehabilitation project.
Cannon Builders Inc. of Blackfoot is the contractor for the $353,000 Idaho Federal Aid project. Work should be completed by mid-July.
