Project to repair 9th Street Underpass on I-90 to begin April 24
COEUR d'ALENE -- A project that will replace two bridge spans on the 9th Street Underpass at Interstate 90 will begin April 24, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The 9th Street Underpass will remain closed until repairs are completed. Traffic will be detoured around the work zone.
The underpass was damaged by over-height vehicles traveling under the structure on the interstate. Two bridge spans will be replaced with steel beams.
To minimize the impact to interstate traffic, removal of the bridge spans and steel structural placement will be done between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The two bridge spans will be removed April 29 - May 1. The steel beams will be put into place May 6 - May 16. The interstate will be closed and traffic will be detoured around the work zone during nighttime work hours.
The contractor expects to work 11 nights, with the remaining repairs to be done during daylight hours. Traffic controls will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone area. The interstate speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.
Harcon Inc. of Spokane, Wash., is the contractor for the $1.1 million project. Work is scheduled to be completed by July 18.
