Public input sought on U.S. 95 Grangeville corridor plan

LEWISTON - An open house will be held March 24 to begin discussions about the future of U.S. 95 between White Bird Summit and Fenn, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The open house will be at the Grangeville Elementary/Junior High School Cafeteria, 400 Idaho St., between 4 and 7 p.m.

The purpose of the corridor plan, which also includes a section of Idaho 13 between its junction with U.S. 95 and the Grangeville city limits to the east, is to identify issues of importance to highway development over the next 20 years. The planning process will consider the needs of local and regional residents as well as the traveling public.

The state of Idaho anticipates safety and efficiency improvements along U.S. 95. This plan will help determine what those improvements should be and will address local traffic issues in and around Grangeville.

U.S. 95 and Idaho 13 are important routes serving local agriculture, tourism, and regional and international trade. These highway segments are primarily two-lane rural highways where passing is allowed; however, there are no passing lanes in the project area. Accident rates are higher on both highways in the Grangeville area than on similar roadways in the state.
