Installation of overflow pipe at Little Bogus Creek on Idaho 55 to begin Tuesday (April 22)
BOISE - Crews will place an overflow pipe just above the existing culvert at Little Bogus Creek - about a quarter mile from Bogus Creek -  between Smiths Ferry and the Rainbow Bridge on Idaho 55, beginning Tuesday (April 22), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The overflow pipe will help to accommodate the large spring runoff expected in the area.

The project will extend through Thursday (April 24). The highway will be reduced to one lane between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., with possible 15-minute delays. There will be no speed limit restrictions, but flaggers will be on hand to guide motorists.

"The pipe is for when the snow melts too fast and overwhelms the existing culvert, like it did a couple of years ago, and washed our most of the downhill bank of the highway for 100 feet," said District 3 Maintenance Manager Dan Bryant. "We are trying to prevent a reoccurance, which we are afraid could happen this year with all the snow still waiting to melt up high."
