Aviation Way, Take Two: Road to close north of Franklin Road starting Sunday (May 4)
BOISE - Weather permitting, Aviation Way will be closed north of Franklin Road Sunday (May 4) through May 20 for work at the intersection, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Inclement weather postponed the closure earlier this week.
Traffic turning north onto Aviation Way from Franklin Road will be routed to Marble Front Road via KCID Road or 10th Avenue. Signs will direct motorists through the detour. The work will be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
The intersection work already completed includes excavation and water and sewer pipe installation. Traffic signal installation, roadway work and concrete paving are yet to come.
This work is part of the I-84 Franklin Road Interchange project that will lengthen and widen all four interchange ramps at their intersection with Franklin Road. The project includes building a new overpass with two through lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes in each direction.
The project also will widen Franklin Road from two to five lanes on both sides of a new interchange overpass. The improved road will have curbs, gutters, sidewalks, bicycle lanes and shoulder.
Construction is scheduled to be finished this fall.
Concrete Placing Co. of Boise is the contractor for the $24.8 million project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for driving information on the state highway or interstate system.
