Public meeting planned for U.S. 91 (Yellowstone Ave.) project in Pocatello

BOISE - A public meeting is planned Tuesday (March 8) to discuss reconstruction of a half-mile segment of U.S. 91 (Yellowstone Ave.) in Pocatello, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The meeting, an open-house format, will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at the Pocatello City Building. Individuals interested in learning more about the project or providing input about it may drop by anytime during the four-hour period. No formal presentations are planned.

The transportation department is partnering with the city of Pocatello to reconstruct a one-half mile segment of the heavily traveled highway from Chapel Road to Flandro Drive. Now in the final design stages, the project will include the removal of 2-3 feet of the existing roadway and rebuilding it with a new base and asphalt surface. A new storm drain system will connect to existing lines on both ends of the project, and curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be replaced where necessary.

ITD is interested in receiving comments about the sequence of the project stages and input about possible detours, alternate routes and business access.

Reconstruction is expected to begin in late spring or early summer and should take about 60 working days.
