Construction on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls to start Wednesday (June 18)
RIGBY - Construction on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls will begin Wednesday (June 18), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews will seal-coat the street from Yellowstone Highway to Holmes Avenue. During construction, motorists can expect slight delays as crews spray liquid asphalt on the highway and spread a layer of crushed rock over it. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.

The speed limit in work areas will be reduced to 35 mph.

Work will take place Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., with some work possible on Saturday. The project is scheduled for completion Saturday afternoon (June 21), weather permitting. Crews reconstructed and expanded the 1.6‑mile section from two to five lanes last year, facilitating east‑west travel in town.

The seal coating will complete the Sunnyside widening project, which was a companion project to the three‑year, $23 million Sunnyside Interchange project completed in November 2006. That project connects Interstate 15 and Idaho Falls. Later this spring, crews will paint yellow centerline stripes, white edge stripes and apply other pavement markings along the new street.

The work will take a couple days and require only minor traffic restrictions. During construction, local can access businesses or homes along the construction zone, with intersecting streets Rollandet Avenue/Park Road and Boulevard/Stonebrook Lane remaining open to north‑south traffic.

Sponsored by the city of Idaho Falls, the project will be administered by ITD using federal funds. The contractor is H‑K Contractors, Inc. of Idaho Falls. Sunnyside Road is a five‑lane highway from I‑15 to Ammon.
