US 30 at Portneuf River Bridge (Topaz Bridge) to close for bridge maintenance Wednesday night (June 19)
POCATELLO -- Maintenance work on the Portneuf River (Topaz) Bridge will prompt closure of U.S. 30 east of McCammon on Wednesday night (June 19), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The closure, to repair the bridge deck, will take place from 10 p.m. Wednesday night to 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
This route is reduced to one lane with flaggers to guide motorists. During the closure, the following detour will be in effect:
Eastbound motorists: Detour 11 miles south on I-15 to the Virginia Interchange (Exit 36), then south on U.S. 91 to Preston. From Preston, take Idaho 34 north through Grace to the junction of U.S. 30, 6 miles west of Soda Springs.
Northbound I-15 with a destination of U.S. 30 eastbound: use I-15 Exit 17, taking Idaho 36 to Preston, then Idaho 34 through Grace to the junction of U.S. 30, 44 miles, then 6 miles west of Soda Springs.
Westbound U.S. 30 motorists: Detour south on Idaho 34 through Grace to Preston, then north on U.S. 91 to the junction of I-15 at the Virginia Interchange (Exit 36), then north on I-15 where U.S. 30 joins I-15.
All commercial vehicles must take the detour. Passenger vehicles (cars/pickups) will be allowed to take the Old Oregon Trail Road during the closure. Emergency vehicles will be allowed on the bridge if necessary.
