Public invited to comment on Washington Street North project
TWIN FALLS - The design for the Washington Street North project, located between Falls Avenue and Pole Line Road, is ready for public review. A public design meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, to gather comments on the design aspects being considered.

The meeting will be held at the College of Southern Idaho in the Student Union Building, Room 232, 315 Falls Avenue in Twin Falls. The 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. meeting will be an open format. Residents are invited to stop by any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to view plans and offer comments.

Specific design aspects that are being considered include additional right-of-way requirements, property access, access locations and items needing to be removed or relocated (such as trees and fences). The public will be able to view the proposed roadway layout, geometry and design options.

This portion of Washington Street North, located between Falls Avenue and Pole Line Road, is one phase of several that will ultimately widen this north/south arterial street from Shoup Avenue to Pole Line Road. A federally approved environmental assessment has been completed for the entire corridor, and now the City of Twin Falls is working with the Federal Highway Administration and the Idaho Transportation Department to fund the widening phases.

Federal funding will cover more than 80 percent of the project's construction costs. The city will cover the remaining costs. The Idaho Transportation Department is overseeing and administering the project because it uses federal funding.

The displays that will be presented at the design meeting will be available for the public to view on and after Tuesday, June 24, at the Twin Falls office of Riedesel Engineering, Inc., located at 202 Falls Avenue. Written comments will then be accepted from that date until July 16, 2008. Following the comment collection period, the design team will work with the public to answer questions or resolve concerns related to the project design.

The public's involvement in this project is appreciated. If participants require special assistance or auxiliary aids for communication, please notify Aaron Wert or Josh Baird at (208) 733-2446 at least two days prior to the July 1 meeting.
