Nighttime I-84 lane closures beginning Monday (July 7) between Franklin Boulevard Interchange in Nampa and Ten Mile Road
BOISE - I-84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at night between the Franklin Boulevard Interchange and Ten Mile Road from Monday (July 7) through July 28, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
The inside lanes of east- and westbound I-84 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday night through Sunday morning.
The closures will allow crews to create a work zone in the median for the Garrity to Meridian widening project on I-84. A separate work crew will survey the interstate between Franklin and Garrity for a future interstate widening project.
The Garrity to Meridian widening project will result in six lanes and a median barrier between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges on I-84. Construction began last month and is expected to be complete in 2010. Design work for the Franklin to Garrity widening project is under way.
The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and highway shoulders are closed in the Garrity to Meridian project area.
The I-84 widening projects are part of a series of interstate improvements planned between Caldwell and Meridian through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
