Nighttime lane closure on westbound I-84 begins tonight (July 29) between Ten Mile and Meridian
BOISE - Westbound I-84 will be reduced to one lane at night between the Meridian Road Interchange and Ten Mile Road Overpass from tonight (July 29) to Sunday (Aug. 3), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The inside lane of westbound I-84 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., tonight and every night through Sunday. The closure will allow crews to haul excess dirt out of the median in preparation for additional lanes between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges.

Crews will also bring in base materials for the new lanes. Paving is expected to begin in mid-August.

Eastbound lanes will remain open; however, the transportation department asks motorists to watch for trucks re-entering the highway on eastbound I-84 just east of the Meridian interchange.

The I-84, Garrity to Meridian project will result in six lanes and a median barrier between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges. Widening began in June 2008 and is expected to be complete in 2010.

The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and highway shoulders are closed in the Garrity to Meridian project area.

The I-84, Garrity to Meridian project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
